Bracknell, Berkshire, England – July 27, 2009 - MAXXESS Systems Europe Ltd today announced that eAXxess security management software has been selected to protect the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth.
The eAXxess software, which is contributing to the safe keeping of manuscripts and books dating from 113AD, provides a visual display of the library and shows the exact location where an alarm has been activated. The user friendly schematic speeds up response time since staff can immediately see an icon indicating where a problem has occurred and respond accordingly.
eAXxess has been installed by Cardiff-based SGD Security. David Witts-Price, CEO of SGD Security, said: “The ability to integrate third-party products into the MAXXESS reporting system is a real strength of their offering. Flexibility on protocols helps both our engineers and the end-user, as alarms generated by the Honeywell Galaxy intruder panels are shown immediately in the eAXxess events window.”
The schematic visually presents twenty separate areas of the library and displays easy to understand graphical representations of motion detectors, door contacts and vibrations sensors. When an event occurs, a control room operator can immediately drill down to a specific area on the schematic to see the icon which will have changed colour or will flash a warning. This visual representation of an incident is far more effective than text based alarm descriptions.
David reports that the libraries management is happy that eAXxess has already proved itself as a valuable management tool and the fact that the software can be later upgraded to include the integration of CCTV and other alarms.
“MAXXESS have picked certain key products and integrated them into their management software,” added David. “The standard offerings from the core units cover most scenarios but if you approach the MAXxess with a serious proposition requiring specific functionality they will tailor the product for you.”
The Treasury Building of the library which houses rare books and drawings was designed in 1909 and the library management considered it very important that SGD installation engineers should minimise the presence of surface conduit when wiring individual alarm zones back to the central control room. This was achieved by exploiting underground ducting.
The library, which has been described by the BBC as “one of the world’s greatest libraries” holds over four million books, 40,000 paintings and approximately one million maps and has an incredible 103 miles of shelving.
